Filling your diaper bag, Mary Poppins-style.
Keeping your little one comfortable and happy is something that all new moms want to do. This often takes a lot of energy and a lot of stuff. When you’re at home, you have your whole stash of the numerous baby products you selected to use to help keep your little one in tip top shape. When you’re out of the house, things are different. You rely on whatever you’ve packed in your diaper bag to get you through the day. As such, it’s important for you to keep a well-stocked diaper bag that has baby lotion and other essentials in it.
What to Pack for Baby
- Diapers and wipes. Changing your child’s diaper is something that you’re going to have to do no matter where you are. Having some extra diapers and travel wipes with you will make things easier on you. No one wants to carry around a stink baby, no matter how cute she is.
- Diaper rash ointment. You’ll want to make sure that your baby’s skin is never irritated, so having some diaper rash ointment on hand is always a good idea. Your child’s bum will appreciate it.
- Extra outfit for your child. Your little one could spit up and be in need of a change of clothes, so keep an extra one with you at all times.
- Baby bottles and formula. If you feed your baby with formula, you’ll need to make sure you always pack some in your diaper bag. You never know when you will be diverted or delayed getting home, and have you heard how loudly that kid can scream when she’s hungry? Whoa!
- Baby skin care products. Taking care of your little one’s delicate skin is a 24/7 job. Make sure you bring baby lotion with you and other Baby Magic skin care products.
What to Pack for Mom
Your diaper bag will contain new baby products that will help keep your baby healthy and happy on the road, but it should also contain some items for you as well. After all, you might not be able to carry a purse with you in addition to your diaper bag and any other items you need for the little one, so you’ll want some room in the diaper bag for your things. Before you leave the house, make sure that you pack these essentials for yourself:
- Cell phone. Make sure that you have your pediatrician’s phone number programmed into the phone in case your little one gets ill.
- Extra shirt. You’ll need to make sure that you have an extra shirt in case your little one spits up on you.
- Water bottle. It’s good to keep a water bottle in the bag in case you get thirsty while you’re out. Taking care of an infant can be hard work and it’s important to take care of yourself as well.
- Snack. If you are nursing, this is doubly important. Besides, you can shed the baby weight if you start relying on drive-thrus – a common pitfall for busy mommies with babies.
- Wallet. Make sure that you pack your wallet in the diaper bag. You or your child might need something while you are out, and you’ll want to make sure you have some cash on hand, as well as your basic IDs.
