Becoming a new mom is probably going to be one of the most exciting times in your life. It’s also likely to be a bit stressful because there are so many new things to learn.
You’ll need to decide whether you want to breastfeed or not, find the best baby lotion to keep your baby’s skin protected, and find out ways to ensure that your baby is eating the right foods. One thing you might have some difficulty with as a new mom is getting baby to eat vegetables.

Helping Your Baby Learn to Love Veggies

Believe it or not, you are capable of helping your baby develop a love for veggies. You might find it a bit of a struggle at first, but you’ll eventually find things that work for you and your little one.

Definitely be patient and avoid creating stress for you and your baby.  If you show frustration or weariness with offering beets you know he will reject, your baby will develop a negative association with those beets.  He won’t understand why you are frustrated – only that beets equals annoyed mommy.  So, who can blame him for sending those suckers sailing across the kitchen?

Also, keep in mind that some adults have more taste buds per square inch than others, making them super-tasters.  These people taste food with greater intensity and may perceive more bitterness in some foods. Guess what those adults were called when they were just innocent children trying to not gag at dinner:  Picky Eaters.

Try the following tips to help encourage your baby to eat and love veggies:

  • Add some flavor. Although you will want to keep certain spices away from your child, that doesn’t mean you can add some other flavors to his vegetables. A great way to add flavor to your little one’s meal without causing harm to the tummy is adding some grated cheese or mixing it with yogurt. Some babies will love this extra flavor with their veggies.
  • Mix things up. Try giving your child lots of different veggies. If you only try to feed your baby one or two different types of produce, then he might not find a flavor he really likes. Instead, try different flavors, from carrots to greens and you might find something that he will love.
  • Let your little one choose. Once your little one is old enough, try letting him pick out a new veggie at the supermarket. This will give your baby the power of choice, and this is often enough to get him to eat vegetables.
  • Don’t quit. A lot of times it can be frustrating when you’re focused on getting your child to eat veggies, and it’s just not working. This is not something that you should give up on though. It’s important for your little one to eat a variety of foods and vegetables are a big part of this. Keep trying different tips and techniques until you find something that is right for the both of you.
