Exercising With Baby Feels Great!
Getting back into the habit of exercising after you’ve had a child can seem like a monumental task, but it’s really important and beneficial to resume an exercise routine as soon as your doctor gives you the go-ahead. Exercising causes your body to create positive hormones called endorphins. Endorphins help you feel upbeat. And when Mommy’s happy, Baby’s happy! This is why exercise helps ease tension and gives you more long-term energy. That way, you’ll have a lot more time and energy to focus on taking care of your little one, and you’ll end up looking great in the process. It’s a fun way for the two of you to get to know each other, and you’ll really be able to work off the pounds.
Exercises to Try with Baby
Living Room Rec Room
If you want to do some exercising with baby without leaving the house, there are lots of things that you can do with your baby. For starters, you can put on your favorite record and have a mommy-child dance party. Or, you can always put in a DVD and do some exercises together. A lot of baby DVDs actually try to promote fitness, so you can sing and dance along to any of your child’s favorite videos and end up losing the weight that way. Dancing and moving around together gives you a chance to put in a great cardio workout while having tons of fun together.
Walking
One of the easiest ways to burn calories with baby in tow is walking. Whether you strap baby to you in a sling or carrier or use a jogging stroller, taking a walk with your baby will help you put those muscles to work. You can stroll at a leisurely pace for the first few weeks until you are feeling more comfortable in your skin, but try to make your walk more brisk or even work up to a jog as soon as you feel physically able. Some women experience discomfort moving in their new-found flab from having a baby. Wear snug spandex shorts and a tight jogging bra under your workout clothes can give you additional support an make moving more comfortable. Another little tip now that you have some extra, shall we say, cushioning: Baby powder helps with chaffing. And not just on baby. Grab some Patty Cake Dustless Baby Powder and apply a sheer layer to your inner thighs, under your breasts and in your creases to improve your exercise journey.
Swimming
When your baby is a little older, swimming is a great exercise that can burn a lot of calories, and you can go down to the local gym to enjoy their facilities. You’re going to enjoy how relaxing the water is, and he will enjoy all of the splashing. If you decide to use this method of exercise to get fit, make sure that you take all of the proper safety precautions. You don’t want to do anything to jeopardize the health of your little one, so keep hold of him at all times during your swim and use an approved floatation device to support him . Also, make sure that you pack a good diaper bag that includes towels, swim diapers, baby powder, and a change of clothes for him.
Park Play!
It’s also a great idea to take your child to the park. If you have other mommy friends, meet them up there and workout together. Babies can scoot on blankets while you and your friends do yoga or old-school jumping jacks. If you don’t have other mommy friends, going to the park is a great way for both of you to meet other parents and get some fresh air and exercise. You can play on the playground or find walking trails. You’ll have the opportunity to get some exercise and your kiddo can be exposed to some great new experiences.
