Pick the Right Diaper Size
October 07, 2009
Diapers come with weight ranges on the package, but every baby is shaped differently, meaning a certain brand or size might not quite fit your little guy.
He may also grow out of a size before he reaches the maximum weight for that diaper. To help you pick the right size for your baby, we’ve put together these quick tips.
Getting the Right Fit
· The best sign that your baby’s ready to move up a diaper size is more frequent overflow (i.e., wetting or pooping through the diaper). If the diaper can’t hold everything in, go with a bigger size.
· His diaper is getting too small if the tabs are straining at his hips instead of comfortably fastening more toward his belly button. It’s time to move up a size!
· If you see red marks on his thighs or waist, the diaper is digging into his skin. He’ll be more comfortable in the next size up.
· But don’t use a diaper that’s too big, either. If it’s sagging or slipping off his hips when full, move down a size. It’s better for his diapers to fit a bit too snugly for a time than to be falling off.
· Keep in mind that you don’t have to stick to one brand. For instance, one brand’s newborn diaper may fit your baby perfectly, but when it’s time to move up a size, that brand’s diaper may not work for him. If that’s the case, try other brands until you find a fit that’s just right. You may even notice that moving back and forth between brands as your baby gets bigger works best.
