Diaper Changing on the Go

All you need for a quick diaper change on-the-go is to be prepared and fully stocked with our diaper changing essentials. Here’s what you need to know.

What to Pack in Your Diaper Bag:

• Diapers (3 or 4) and baby wipes

• Of course, a public changing table or your friend’s home setup is best, but if there’s nowhere “official” to change your baby, use your portable pad on a bed or a carpeted floor. If you’re at a friend’s house, you could also ask for a towel to put under your pad. If you’re in a public place and there’s no appropriate or clean surface to use, your stroller (with the seat reclined back as far as it will go) can double as a changing table.

• If you have to wash anything out, use the sink/blow dryer in a public bathroom, and tuck the soiled/wet clothes in a Ziploc.

• If you don’t have all the clean clothing you need (you forgot to restock your bag after the last blowout, or you took your “light” diaper bag that day), ask your friend if you can borrow some clothes. If you’re out, look around for moms who will understand your plight and who might be able to help. In a pinch, wrap your baby in a blanket and tuck him deep in the stroller, then head for home!

• Try to stay calm and take your time—and keep your sense of humor! You’ll find all of this rather funny someday. Seriously.
