When you hit the road to have some fun with your family, you may not be prepared for all of the stress that you can feel while traveling with a baby. Being in the car or on an airplane for long periods of time is probably new to your little one, and that could end up meaning bad news for everyone else on the trip. Because routine is a must have for baby, it’s important for you to think about how you’re going to keep your baby on a proper schedule while you’re traveling and the rest of the time you’re on vacation. If you don’ take the time to work on this, your vacation might not end up being as fun as you’d like.
Baby’s Eating Schedule
If you’re traveling, it can be hard to stay on a proper eating schedule yourself, so keeping baby to a good schedule can be difficult. Babies, though, tend to get cranky when they’re not fed on time, so keeping a set feeding schedule is a must have for baby when you’re on vacation. You should make it a point to stop, if you’re in the midst of traveling, or find a quiet, private place to feed baby at his or her normal times. It’s okay to be a little early or late depending on your plans for the day, but too much change can be a big problem for both you and baby.
Baby’s Sleep Schedule
Letting baby get the proper amount of rest while you’re on vacation might also be difficult for you, especially if you’re on the go more often than you’re relaxing. Getting the right amount of sleep is a must have for baby, so you should really make a great effort to let baby nap when he or she is used to napping. You should also try to get baby to bed at the regular time. Although it can be tempting to let baby stay up and enjoy the fun with you, doing this too often can make returning to a normal sleep schedule really difficult when you come home for vacation.
Schedule Some Fun
While you want to be strict in some aspects and keep baby as close to his or her routine as possible, vacation is about having fun. That’s why you should make it a priority to let your baby in on some of the fun during your family vacation. Try to do things that will involve your little one as much as possible. After all, your vacation should be a time where you and your family get to bond, so do whatever’s necessary to ensure that baby has a blast.
