If you’re a new mom, you’re probably familiar with the concept of having to stay up all night with a baby who can’t seem to get to sleep and stay asleep. After doing this for a while, you can get really worn down. Fortunately, this is not something that you have to just put up with. There are some simple tips for dealing with your baby’s nightwaking issues. From using baby lotion to calm your little one to sleep to engaging in some activity, you can help regulate your baby’s schedule so that you both can get way more shuteye.
Try Some Cuddling
If your baby keeps waking up in the night, there’s a good chance that he or she simply needs to be comforted. To get your baby in the mood for sleep, you should try spending some time cuddling with him or her. Your body heat and your touch are sure to calm your little one down and make him or her feel very secure. If you want to stop nightwaking before it starts, it may be a good idea to cuddle your baby before you ever put him or her down at night. Just make this a part of your normal routine after you complete your baby’s nighttime skin care routine with baby lotion. Feeling so protected before bed may make it much less likely for your baby to wake up in the night.
Offer a Baby Massage
Another great way to get your baby in the mood for sleep is to give him or her a massage with baby lotion. The skin-to-skin contact involved in this is also likely to make your little one feel comfortable and safe, and it’s a really great way to enhance your bond with your baby. You don’t have to spend a great deal of time on this, and after a few minutes you should notice your baby starting to get sleepy again.
Get in Motion
While some babies can easily be lulled back to sleep by a massage with baby lotion, other babies need to experience some motion or activity to get sleepy again. You can try holding your baby close and walking around the house, or you might want to put baby in the car seat and go for a ride together. You’ll learn rather quickly if this is something that works for your baby or if you need to try something else.
Take some time to figure out what your baby likes best. When you find something that works well for your baby, you both will benefit and you can keep nightwaking to a minimum.
