Chicken pox can be a nightmare, and dealing with them on an infant is something that no parent wants to go through. Unfortunately, babies sometimes contract chicken pox, and if your baby ends up with this infection, you’ll need to do what you can to help soothe him or her and minimize the irritation. One of your best tools for dealing with the chicken pox is baby oil. Its gentle properties can help you to give your baby some sweet relief and stop the itching. You’re likely to have some lying around for routine baby skin care, so make the best use of it when your child has the chicken pox.

Soothe Baby with Baby Oil
When your infant has chicken pox, it can cause him or her a great deal of irritation. One of the best things that you can do to minimize this irritation, and give your baby some relief, by applying baby oil to his or her skin. When you do apply the oil, be careful not to scratch any of the scabs on your baby’s skin, as this can make things worse. Also, make sure that you choose the right oil before applying it to your little one’s skin. You’ll want one that is gently formulated for baby’s sensitive skin, as this will ensure that he or she gets the full relief from the oil.
Although directly applying baby oil to your infant’s skin can help give him or her some relief from chicken pox, you might also want to try it in the bath. Lukewarm baths are a great way to soothe itchy skin in general, and adding some baby oils to the water can do a lot to bring your baby some relief. As a bonus, a warm bath can also help to relax your baby and relieve some of the stress associated with the itching. It’s really a win-win idea that can help your baby feel a lot better.

Other Ways to Soothe Irritation
If baby oil is not enough to soothe the irritation and itching brought on by chicken pox, then you may want to consult with your pediatrician about other options. Calamine lotion is often a great alternative, but you’ll want to check with your doctor and make sure that this is safe for your baby’s skin before you apply it. Oftentimes, calamine lotion can bring much-needed relief to infants who are struggling with the chicken pox, so contact your doctor and ask about its use right away.
