If you’re a new mom, then the odds are you know all about dealing with a fussy baby. One of the things that you can try in order to calm your baby down is giving him or her a relaxing baby massage with baby oil. This can often help baby relax enough to get some sleep, and it can also be a great way for you to strengthen the bond between you and your little one. For baby massage to be effective, though, it has to be done correctly. Learning the right steps can make baby massage a cinch, even for beginners.

Choosing a Good Massage Oil
One of the first steps to giving baby a successful massage is choosing the right oil. Babies have delicate skin that is often sensitive, so you need to choose a baby oil that won’t harm your little one’s skin. Many baby skin care products contain harmful ingredients that will cause an allergic reaction or simply cause baby irritation. As such, you should avoid these products and choose an oil that has been tested by dermatologists.

Tips for Applying Baby Oil
The next step in giving a successful baby massage is to make sure that you get enough oil to cover your little one’s skin thoroughly. Using too little baby oil could mean that your little one’s skin doesn’t get moisturized properly and using too much could make baby too slippery to handle. You should pour a dime-sized drop of oil into the palm of your hand and work with this. If you need more oil, you can always add more later on.
If you are worried about your infant getting cold, then you may want to warm the oil up before using it. However, this is something that you need to take great care with. You don’t want the oil to get too hot and burn your baby. Sometimes, cupping the oil in your hands for a few minutes will be enough to warm it up for baby’s skin.

It’s a great idea to massage baby softly using your fingertips. You can use gentle, circular motions to get the oil into baby’s skin, but you need to always remember not to be rough. Massaging a baby is much different from massaging an adult, so you’ll need to keep this in mind as you rubbing oil into your little one’s skin. Alternatively, you can try Baby Magic Creamy Baby Oil for a less messy application.

Be Gentle and Loving
When it comes to giving a successful baby massage, it’s important for you to be as gentle and loving as possible. The goal of such a massage is to make a fussy baby calm down, and the best way to achieve this is by using the softest, most loving touch possible. It’s a good idea to talk soothingly to your little one as you massage him or her with baby oil. This will show baby how much you care, and it can help to strengthen the bond between the two of you.
