Learning How to Bond with Your Newborn
For some new mom, the connection that they feel with their babies is instant. For others, it takes some time to build a strong bond with their new babies. If you want to feel closer to your little one, you should think about all of the ways that you can bond with your newborn. Close, personal interaction with your new baby is the best way to increase the bond between the two of you. Even an action as small as gently rubbing baby oil on your infant’s skin can be a special moment that brings the two of you closer together.

One of the easiest things that you can do to encourage the bond between you and baby is show him or her how happy you are when you’re holding or handling your little one. When looking at something so precious, it will be hard for you not to smile. Make sure that your baby sees how happy you are to be around him or her, and look deeply into your little one’s eyes. This will show your infant how much you care and it will make it easier for baby to trust you.

Other Activities to Increase Bonding

Another thing that you can do is increase the amount of face-to-face contact you have with your infant. Newborns can only see a few inches in front of their faces at first, so it’s important for you to hold your face close to your little one’s when you are talking or singing to him or her. This repetition will help baby remember who Mommy is, and it will help the two of you grow closer as the weeks go by.

Baby massage is another great way for you to bond with your newborn. Newborns will rely heavily on touch in the first few weeks of their lives, so touching your baby lovingly and gently will help to calm and reassure him or her. Make time for a soothing baby massage with baby oil once or twice a week. This will really help your little one come to trust you.

You can also bond with your newborn by singing sweet songs before bedtime or during bath time. Babies will love to hear the sound of their mother’s voices, so it’s a good idea for you to sing and hug your baby as often as possible. Your baby will begin to recognize your voice and will be comforted by it.
