Ways You Can Help
It’s hard for new moms to see their little ones suffer through their first cold. There are a number of things that you can do to make your newborn feel better and more comfortable while you nurse him back to health. Try the following tips when your baby has his first cold:
· Visit the pediatrician. When symptoms begin to pop up, you’ll want to make sure it’s no more than a cold. Your pediatrician can give you a diagnosis and help you understand when it’s important to bring your baby to the doctor and when you can engage in home care. Your pediatrician may prescribe some medication to help your little one feel better during this time.
· Make the crib more comfortable. If your infant has a cold, then he may have trouble breathing as well as trouble sleeping. You should elevate the end of the crib where your infant lays his head, as this will help him breathe easier.
· Hold your baby as much as possible. When an infant is sick, he will need to feel comforted. Physical contact is a great way to help him feel a lot more comfortable and loved. Make sure that you hold your infant’s head up while doing this, as this will also help him breathe. Also, you may want to try a soothing massage using Baby Magic oils to help calm him when he gets too fussy.
Keep in mind that some babies will get over colds quickly and it will take time for others. If you do your part to try and keep baby comfortable, then he will be feeling better in no time. The sooner you nurse your infant back to health, the sooner you two can start having fun together.
